Biblical counseling at Woodridge exists to provide support and encouragement through the personal ministry of the Word in the context of trusting, authentic relationships.
Biblical counseling is a form of discipleship because it is simply helping Christians learn from scripture how to think and live like Jesus. However, it is unique in that it is expressly for Christians who are facing a unique obstacle in their walk with Christ or are in a personal season of difficulty, such as losing a loved one, dealing with marriage or other relationship issues, or struggling with anxiety or sadness. Every Christian experiences trials and temptations because we live in a fallen world, and biblical counseling is available to help others work through their difficulties in a faithful way so they can get back on their feet and back into the life of the church.
How does this occur? By bringing Scripture and its gospel truths into each meeting/session. Biblical counseling reminds believers of their identity in Christ as children of God (John 1:12) and seeks to strengthen the Christian’s walk with the Lord through the application of Scripture, reliance on the Holy Spirit, and prayer (James 1:22, 5:13). In meeting with a biblical counselor, the gospel is proclaimed in a Christ-centered relationship for the purpose of growth and maturity (Col. 1:28).
