Children's (infant- 5th grade)

Woodridge Children's Ministry

"All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD,
and all your saints shall bless you!
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
and tell of your power,
to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds,
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom." (ESV)
- Psalm 145:10–12

At Woodridge, we hold firm that parents are to be the primary disciplers in the children's lives, this is a lifelong and sometimes challenging task; with this in mind, we are thrilled to join parents in the great endeavor. Teachers and helpers are trained and equipped to share God's Word weekly to build solid, gospel centered foundations in the youngest members of our church.

Proclaim

  • All children 2 years old - 5th grade enjoy our 3 year curriculum rotation. 1 year is focused on learning the attributes of God, and 2 years are spent walking through the whole of scripture chronologically focusing on key stories, but always learning how all of scripture points to the gospel; our need for a Savior, and all that Christ fulfilled through his death, burial, resurrection, and ascension.
  • Monthly memory verses for all children 2 and up, parents are encouraged to memorize these verses as well.
  • Children 4 and up join in corporate worship to sing songs rich in gospel truths (Col 3:16)
  • Family discipleship and devotional resources that correspond to weekly Sunday School lessons are available to encourage continued learning during the week.
  • Each year in December children participate in a Children's Sunday School Showcase - this is an opportunity for them to proclaim to the congregation, parents, friends, and family members the precious truths they learned throughout the year!
Psalm 78:1-8
"Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments; and that they should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not steadfast, whose spirit was not faithful to God."

Disciple

  • Discipleship happens across many levels and generations during Children's classes. On Sunday mornings discipleship happens between teachers, helpers, students, and parents as we all grow together in the knowledge of the Lord and in living to glorify Him.
  • We support parents in the task of discipling their children by providing at home resources such as family devotional books and memory verse packets.
  • Curriculum across all age groups is the same with some modifications in activities/depth of content to be appropriate for each classroom. This greatly aids in family discipleship as older siblings can guide the conversations of “what did you learn in Sunday School” and the precious truths learned by all ages are able to be discussed within the family context and expanded upon!
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

Treasure

  • Treasuring Christ above all is displayed in tangible ways as teachers and helpers give of their time in classes weekly.
  • Parents are often encouraged to serve as teachers and helpers in their children's Sunday School classes. This creates opportunity for parents to display their love for Christ and the local church.
  • Monthly memory verses allow families to write God's Word on their heart, (Ps 119:11) we treasure Christ through treasuring His Word.
3 John 1:4
"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."

Sunday School Hour

Woodridge offers Christ-centered children’s programming on Sunday morning for children birth to 5th grade. Your first stop is the children’s check-in table where we’ll help you register your kids and show you where they’ll be going to class.  Children of any age are welcome and encouraged to join you in corporate worship if you’d like them to.  After the service is over, parents pickup their children from the class by presenting their security sticker.

Corporate Worship Service

Given the formative nature of corporate worship, we love little ones to sit with their families during the corporate worship service. We encourage parents to bring quiet activities to do during the service. Resources are also available for families at the children's check in desk in the commons.  For families who would like to have younger children out of the sanctuary, childcare is provided for the youngest children (birth through 4-year-olds).

Safety

To ensure the safety of your children, those serving in Children’s Ministry must be a member of the church, have completed a thorough application, submitted to a criminal background/reference check and interviewed with Children's leaders. We also require that there be a minimum of two unrelated workers supervising children at all times in each classroom. Anyone convicted of child abuse, or a related offense may not serve in Woodridge’s Children’s Ministry. Parents and children will always receive printed security tags for safe and secure drop off and pickup. Children's ministry workers are in regular contact with our security team and workflows are in place to notify parents of any needs that their children may have during class.
