A Good King Who Sings

Many think that authority, whether it be in the family, in the church or in the state, is a necessary evil. However, such thinking doesn’t align with scripture. God created these institutions (or governments) and the Apostle Paul writes that “…there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God” (Romans 13:1). The evil is not that there are people in authority but that there are evil people in authority. What we should desire and pray for is that those in authority over us are good and Psalm 101 provides us with a picture of such a man.
