SERMON DETAILS
Sermon Series -Beholding the Greatness of Jesus Christ
Sermon Preacher & Text: Luke Dufek, Revelation 5:1-5
TITLE: The Lion of Judah
SUMMARY:  In this third of four Advent sermons on titles ascribed to Jesus Christ in scripture, our focus will be on the title “The Lion of Judah". We first encounter a reference to the Lion of Judah in Genesis 49 when Jacob blesses one of his sons. This blessing was part of a messianic prophecy that would be fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who was a descendant of Judah. Considering the significance of this title, The Lion of Judah, will help us to behold Jesus Christ’s greatness.

Confession of Sin
Church: Father in Heaven, you have made known your great love for us in the gospel. You promise your mercy to all who repent and trust in your Son. Jesus, you are God and became a man, born in Bethlehem. You lived a sinless and perfectly obedient life; then you died on the cross to atone for our sins.
We confess that we have not always loved you and others as you command. We confess that at times we have neglected worship and lived for ourselves. We confess that we have not sought first your kingdom and righteousness. Lord, forgive us for complaining and grumbling in response to your providence.
Holy Spirit, we ask for your help! Help us to believe the promises of the gospel and joyfully obey the scriptures. Jesus Christ, we proclaim that you and you alone are our hope. Most merciful Father, have mercy on us.

Assurance of Pardon
Leader: Church, remember what Jesus Christ has done for us. In his birth, God himself entered into our world to save us from our sins. In his life, Jesus fulfilled all righteousness; he lived the perfect and obedient life that we have not lived. In his death, Jesus was nailed to the cross; he bore the wrath and shame that we deserved. But the grave could not hold him. Death did not defeat the King of kings and Lord of lords. In his resurrection, Jesus Christ conquered death, and because he was raised, we will be too. He has given us new life and the forgiveness of our sins.

All:  Praise be to God!
