SERMON DETAILS
Sermon Series -Romans
Sermon Preacher & Text: Luke Dufek, Romans 9:1-5
TITLE: A Heart Burdened For A People Separated From Christ
SUMMARY: The reality of God’s sovereignty in salvation and the promise that no one and nothing can separate the Christian from God’s love are reasons for all who are in Christ to rejoice. However, these same truths will lead many to ask important and sometimes difficult questions. One such question is what about Israel, what about the Jews? In Romans 9 through 11, the Apostle Paul addresses this question; in doing so, he not only provides answers, but he gives us an example of what it means to be burdened for those we know and love who are separated from Christ.

CONFESSION OF SIN
Pastor: The Author of Hebrews writes: “And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:11–14)
In response to this scripture, confess your sin in private prayer to the God who sent Christ to be the single sacrifice for our sins.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Pastor: Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. (Hebrews 10:19–22)
Church: Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
(Hebrews 10:23–25)

NEW CITY CATECHISM:
Q 9: What does God require in the first, second, and third commandments?
A 9: First, that we know and trust God as the only true and living God. Second, that we avoid all idolatry and do not worship God improperly. Third, that we treat God’s name with fear and reverence, honoring also his Word and works.
Deuteronomy 6:13–14
