Plenary Session 3 – How We Live Faithfully in the Face of A.I.
** We apologize, but we had some technical difficulties with the audio on this teaching. We did not intentionally try and make Pastor Brent sound like a robot given his topic of transhumanism!
As intelligent, generative technologies rapidly advance in capability and ubiquity, they are accompanied by a rising tide of influence as to whether, when, and how we should engage with these technologies. In most cases these influences do not have gospel motives for the individual or society, nor are they rooted in biblical anthropology. For example, large language models purport to offer the solution to loneliness, an alternative to the labor required for human creativity, and the answer to many of our questions big and small. In fact, for some AI has the potential to solve our biggest problems and transform humanity so that we transcend to a higher plane of existence. Considering these things, how then should Christians respond? What pursuits and practices will ground us in the reality of God’s world, living according to the nature and role God has given to us as his image bearers? And how does the gospel of our Lord give us true meaning and hope amid the competing gospels of our technological age?
