Preventing Roots of Bitterness

Nov 26, 2025    John Pfannerstill, Drew Hacker, Derek Best

Have you seen a tree get blown over and uprooted –or even removed by a large machine? This feat requires immense force, because it has roots that act like anchors, reaching deep into the soil. Roots are good in their ability to anchor and provide nourishment. But there is another kind of root that can anchor itself and provide unhealthy nourishment to our souls; the root of bitterness. If left to grow, this bitter root can cause sin to cascade and escalate in our lives. It can destroy the church, our relationships, and negatively impact our ability to treasure Christ above all.

In this episode of the TreasureCast, Pastors Derek, Matt, John and Drew discuss the topic “Preventing Roots of Bitterness.” They discuss the damage that bitterness causes and the other sins it can lead to. But for the Christian, there is hope –they also lead us to the remedy that exists in God’s Word so we can starve and uproot these roots of bitterness in our lives.
