1689 Chapters 6 The Fall of Mankind, and Sin and Its Punishment, 7. God's Covenant 8 Christ the Medi
We continue to unpack the confession in the next 3 chapters with summaries below:
Chapter 6: The Fall of Mankind, and Sin and Its Punishment. This chapter explains how Adam and Eve disobeyed God and brought sin and death into the world. It also describes the effects of sin on human nature, such as corruption, guilt, and condemnation. It affirms that God is just and holy in punishing sinners and that all people are born in sin and need salvation.
Chapter 7: God’s Covenant. This chapter discusses the concept of covenant, which is a solemn agreement between God and his people. It distinguishes between the covenant of works, which was made with Adam before the fall and required perfect obedience, and the covenant of grace, which was made with Christ as the mediator and offers forgiveness and eternal life to those who believe. It also traces the history of the covenant of grace from Abraham to the new covenant in Christ.
Chapter 8: Christ the Mediator. This chapter focuses on the person and work of Jesus Christ, who is the only mediator between God and man. It affirms that Christ is both fully God and fully man and that he was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. It also explains how Christ fulfilled the law, suffered and died for our sins, rose from the dead, ascended to heaven, and intercedes for us. It also declares that Christ will return to judge the world and consummate his kingdom.
