The Sin of Self Importance and its Antidote

During two short interactions with Jesus, the disciples' self-importance and pride comes bubbling to the surface. Through Jesus' gentle answers to the disciples' clear desire for greatness and exclusivity, we learn that following Christ requires a reorienting of our natural framework. Greatness in God's Kingdom is the antithesis of pride and self-interest. The Gospel of Jesus Christ not only models the humility that should mark us as Christ-followers but also empowers our desire and ability to be humble.
