Carrying the Cross to Calvary

Having been cleared of guilt but still sentenced to death Jesus was led to the place where he would be crucified. The severe beating Jesus had unjustly endured made it difficult for him to carry the weight of the cross piece of wood that he would be nailed to. Possibly motivated by impatience, pity or both, the soldiers seized a traveler who had come to celebrate the Passover and made him carry the cross to Calvary. This passage records more of the suffering our Savior endured for us, displays the providence of God and foreshadows the judgment that has and will come to those who reject Christ.
